Check Your Attitude

Checking our attitudes can be a very healthy, but difficult thing to do.  Some days our attitudes are so positive and it is easy to deal with life's opportunities, and other days our attitudes can be as sour as biting into a lemon with no reservation!  In either situation, our attitudes make a difference in how we live our life.

Our pastor, John Mark, is beginning a new sermon series this week and the first topic is on ATTITUDE. In order to prepare my heart for this series, I had to take an honest evaluation of my attitude, with myself, my wife, family, friends, work and ministry.  WOW, I can tell you that I struggle at times with my attitude. I want to be positive and on top of my thoughts, emotions and actions, and it all deals with my approach to my attitude.

How can I work to have the right attitude?  Well, of course I turn to the Bible to see the example Christ has taught us about our attitude.  Might we read these words and allow them to encourage us as we follow Him and work on our attitudes today.

Philippians 2:1-11 (Imitating Christ’s Humility)
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man,he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

What an amazing example we have for living our lives in true humility and as a result, our attitudes brings Glory to God.  So, how is my attitude?  Is it bringing Glory to God?  Think through that today.
